Ascent

We passed Urdukas, Gore and Shigarrin in two days. We placed the basecamp at 5100m. Heat and snow put together are always a torture, but this time the ascent to Camp I (6000m), via the chaotic glacier of the Gasherbrum, became something really exhausting. There, having slept two nights at altitude, we laid 400 meters fixed-ropes to open a route to the Camp II (6400m).

Weather helped us. On June 28th, Ángel, Fernando and Llopis returned home (lack of time and bad weather were against them). That day a French was killed on the attempt to summit the Gasherbrum-IV. On the following day, together with an American group, we were able to get the mountaineer's body.

Bad weather held us for five days in Camp I. On July 5th, Jesús, Julián and me arrived at Camp II, as Álex, Fausto and Félix reached Camp I. The following morning, we climbed up to the summit, and we slept at 7400m in height to continue at daybreak.

At 11.30am both brothers conquered the summit. Julián, very sorrowful, had to retreat at 7600m. Two days later, Félix and Fausto climbed up to the summit with other climbers. In this group was Ramón Blanco, a 65-year-old Galician who lives in Venezuela and who was about to conquer the Everest five years ago. He became the oldest person who conquer an 8000m summit.
