Attempt on Mt Shisha Pangma

Approach

On 12th November, we planned an attempt on Mt Shisha Pangma before coming back to Galicia to stay with our families for Christmas.

As usually, we went to Kathmandu to ask for the permit to climb. There we found out that Tibetan do not grant permits in wintertime. Then, we decided to try it from Nepal.

On the dotted line, the route of approach followed
to reach basecamp on Shisha Pangma.

On the ascent of
Shisha Pangma the bad weather collapsed our plans again.

After several long journeys we arrived at Lantang, from where we left for Nubamatang Kharka (4100m) and Drichung Phu (4300m), where we placed our basecamp. In some occasions we tried to arrive at basecamp by the South wall of the mountain, following a rocky glacier. But it snowed heavily and the snow hid the gaps between rocks, what increased the risks of breaking a leg. We waited once more.

Facing the null perspective of a weather change, we finally decide to abandon. It was a good idea, as three days later there was the greatest snowfall of the year in Langtang; they had two meters of snow.
