Attempt on Mt Annapurna
Ascent We had not reports on where the route went through. We appealed to our logic and we found out the right way. We reached Camp I. And Camp II. But so much snow accumulated and the avalanches on the Annapurna North Face advised us to wait. On the 15th , Álex returned from Kathmandu with the permit. Early on next day, we climbed up to Camp III. Suddenly, Álex, who had remained at Camp II, heard a great roar. He came out of the tent and saw a great cloud coming off the gorge. He shouted several times trying to alert us, but his voice remained lost in that immensity. On the wall, a hundred meters above the set, Jesús saw a powdered snow cloud moving down the mountain. He warned me to reach safety, and I could take shelter between the seracs on my left. The snow mass lashed us; it sought to sweep us down. It suffocated us. Turning into calm, we looked to each other for seconds, like two figures which had just waken up from a dream. It seemed as if The Goddess of the Plenitude was giving us the last warning. |
