Mt Dhaulagiri summit
Ascent We started out to ascend on 12th September. When we were very close to where we usually place Camp I, we were compelled to stop because of a great snowfall. We returned to Basecamp. By then, there was no one else on the route. There, at base, another expedition planned to open a new route. After a failed summit attempt from 6800m, we returned to the basecamp again. Three days later we took a new climbing route. We did reach the summit this time. From there, Jesús, holding an OM flag, breaking that overwhelming silence, shouted: FOR THE PEACE AND THE ENVIROMENT! He drove the flag into the ground. Ten minutes downwards was Julián, who reached his first "8000m". Back in the basecamp, we burnt some cypress branches to say good-bye to Julián and Quino, who returned to Galicia |
