Mt Dhaulagiri summit
Approach Mt Dhaulagiri would be the first goal in our defiance. The same place where years before, Jesus had to give up from his ascent, because he had no permit. Despite being so far away and facing such a difficult challenge, our arrival at Kathmandu, the consciousness of being again in the Gods territory, filled us with calm.
We went together with a cook, a cameraman (Álex), who asked for a leave in the Television de Galicia to work with us all that year, and two mountaineers (Julián and Quino), who wanted to do this summit with us. On the 30th August 1997, we left for Pokhara. In the following stages, before starting the ascent, we passed Birethanti, Ghorapani (where the mountain's beauty was hidden by clouds), Tatopani, Marpha and Yakharka (4200m), where we began the acclimatization. |
