Diary of a challenge

Introduction

A sensible period of time after our return, we carefully thought about our expedition outcomes. We honestly think that both things were present: success and failure. We face our failure if we think that the intention to reach 14 summits in only a year was not achieved. But we also grant a great portion of success to ourselves if we remember the conditions we suffered, both climatic and structural, when facing every mountain.

We talk about success because we reached 5 summits in 11 months, though our funds and infrastructure could only be compared to those usually needed for any expedition to climb one 8000m. Besides, on that year weather conditions became a fierce enemy (how many expeditions reached more than a summit from September 1997 to August 1998?)

protagonists of our challenge.

We are satisfied with our achievement, despite we did not count on high altitude porters -as it usual happens in almost every expedition- and also because, as there were no other expeditions, we had to find out routes and trail on most of the mountains. But we are mainly satisfied to have contributed in this way in defense of peace and environment.
