Intelsis, the Galician challenge
Intelsis video/audio radiolink of great benefits for the expedition "Challenge 8000"The video/audio radiolink developed in Galicia by INTELSIS for the expedition "Desafío 8000" climbers is an equipment of great benefits designed with the aim of meeting the three necessary conditions for this kind of project: a) wide range of operating temperature: among -40ªC and 50ªC; b) minimum weight: less than 1k all the transmitter equipment; and c) maximum autonomy of performance
The link is established in L band frequencies (1500 MHz) with modulation to emit high quality video within a 10km scope. The transmission and reception antennas are identical (lightweight and small-sized, less than 50cm) and of logarithmical mode (20º aperture), what eases its manual pointing and not great accuracy is required. The transmitter is a small completely watertight device. This enables to work out of doors. It accepts an RF power output of 200mW. Power drain is minimum, only 2.4W and with a 12V voltage provided by batteries of Lithium Thyonil Chloride of high energetic density and high efficiency at low temperatures. This makes possible an operativity range of 30 hours on operation in a range from -40ºC to 50ºC. The receiver is also low-consume (3.6W). It is loaded at 12V by an internal Nickel -Cadmium reloadable battery set or with an external feeder in its operating temperature range: -10ºC to 50ºC. The whole equipment, including wires and the antenna, weights less than 1 kilogram. The transmitter, wires and battery are kept into a bag, which can be easily hold round the waist, as big as a compact photo camera. The link allows climbers, even at most critical moments, broadcast high quality images and in real time to the base station. There, they can be recorded on digital video format or be sent in real time, too (by a satellite transportable up-link -codec of 64 Kbps- with video-conference quality) |
